Hamilton will join colleges and universities across the country in recognizing the work of the College's student Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) as part of National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Week, Nov. 10-15. The Hamilton College Emergency Medical Service (HCEMS) is a New York State-certified agency that is comprised of 24 student EMTs who provide 24-hour emergency service to the campus community during the academic year. Each NYS certified EMT volunteers 30-40 hours a week, during which time he or she is on call to assist anyone needing medical attention.

Hamilton's EMTs for 2008-09 are Sujitha Amalanayagam '10, Nicholas Berry '09, Ashley Bourgeois '09, Andrew Branting '11, Christina Clark '10, Sam Cowan '11, Erin Evans '10, Sarah Goodell '11, Megan Herman '09, Cassidy Jay '11, Shane Knapp '09, Kathy Lee '11, Jared Leslie '09, John Lofrese '10, Shyama Nair '10, Ben Saccomano '09, Amanda Schoen '09, Alexa Schwarzman '09, Ryan Seewald '10, Emma Trucks '09, Sam Ward '11, Caitlyn Williams '11, Keith Willner '11 and Kendra Wulczyn '10.

On average, the EMTs respond to approximately 100 medical emergencies on campus each semester. The EMTs are trained to handle basic life support, which means they are capable of treating most injuries and emergencies, including heart attacks, fractured bones, frostbite, allegoric reactions, intoxications, and strokes, until more advanced life support arrives, if necessary.
