Six Hamilton students presented papers at the annual Hudson River Undergraduate Mathematics Conference, held April 21 at Siena College.

Students and their projects were: Alison Blank '07, An Alternative Foundation: Category Theory; Robin Gane-McCalla '07, An Investigation of the Google Page Rank Algorithm; James McConnell '07, The Determining Set; Quang Nguyen '07, Stock Market Psychic - Using Historical Data to Predict Future Prices; Jonathan Stults '07, The Countable Random Graph; and Brendan Sullivan '07, Iterated Function Systems with Memory. The students were accompanied by Professor of Mathematics Richard Bedient, Associate Professor of Mathematics Debra Boutin and Assistant Professor of Mathematics Michelle Lemasurier.

The HRUMC is a one-day mathematics conference held annually each Spring semester at rotating institutions, and attended by students and faculty from various universities, colleges and community colleges in New York and New England. The first meeting was held in 1994 at Siena College. The conference features short talks by students and faculty and a longer invited address by a noted mathematician. This year there were 180 student speakers.

The goal of the HRUMC is to provide undergraduates with the experience of attending and/or presenting at a professional mathematics meeting designed primarily with the student in mind.
