The men and women's swimming and diving teams began the 2002-03 season with dual meet with Ithaca College and Hartwick College. The women defeated Hartwick, 158-85, while they were defeated by Ithaca, 136-107. The men swept both, defeating Hartwick, 151-90 and downed Ithaca, 137-100.
In the women's race senior Maria Choi paced the Continentals. She placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.10) and was second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.21) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.17). Senior diver Cady Kashner swept both boards. She won the one-meter event with a score of 250.70 and the three-meter event with a score of 226.75.Sophomore Brittany Achin placed first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.32.Freshman Suzie Wilson placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.09 and was second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:12.82. In relay action the team of Suzie Wilson, Brittany Achin, Julia Sullivan and Nicole Knapp won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:08.59. The team of Cecelia Tripp, Anne Greenawalt, Katherine Hankowski and Kyle Burruss placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:53.25.
On the men;s side freshman Tim Reed turned in a solid performance in his first collegiate meet. He won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:00.42, the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.45 and the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.77. Ben Delia placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.57. Andrew Saunders won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.54 and was second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.67. Aran Lawrence and Jeff Wilson placed second and third respectively in the 200-yard individual medley. Lawrence came home in a time of 2:02.00, while Wilson finished in a time of 2:02.16. Mike Salmon swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events for the Continentals. He earned a score of 266.55 on the one-meter board and had a score of 291.75 on the three-meter board. Ben Delia placed second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.49. In relay action the team of Aran Lawrence, Steven Morris, Andrew Fink and Kevin Thompson won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:38.33. The team of Andrew Saunders, Jeff Wilson, Ben Delia and Kevin Thompson won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:16.47.
