Hamilton College senior All-American Maggie Hanson is one of 58 student-athletes from across the country to receive an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She becomes the third Hamilton student to receive the prestigious scholarship.

Each year, student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions who have participated in a fall sport compete to win one of the $5,000 awards. Similar scholarship competitions are held for participants on winter and spring sports teams.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.2 GPA and perform with distinction as a member of a varsity team. In addition, the recipient must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics. The student must also intend to continue academic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-time graduate student.

A native of Bowdoinham, ME, Hanson has been one of the top cross-country runners in Division III for the past three years. This past season she won every race she entered, including the UCAA, NESCAC and ECAC championships, before placing ninth at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship and earning All-American honors for the second time.

Also a standout on the indoor and outdoor track teams, Hanson was the 5,000-meter indoor track champion in 2001.

In her four years at Hamilton, Hanson has been on the Dean's List all but one semester and has been an All-Academic selection for the UCAA and NESCAC three straight years. A Senior Fellow for the 2001-02 year at Hamilton, she will graduate in May with a degree in psychology.
