"Homeschooling doesn't mean you're locking your kid up everyday," sociologist Stevens says. "Typically, there are support groups, gym classes, and socials. Kids often are involved in part-time jobs and are active in church groups."
"We tend to overemphasize the civilizing impact of conventional schools. The typical school is not a haven of diversity. Public schools are widely segregated by class and race."
