Associate Professor of Music Rob Hopkins has been elected president of SPEBSQSA, Inc., the Barbershop Harmony Society. Hopkins is a member of the Mohawk Valley chapter in the society's Seneca Land District. Before his election to president, Hopkins served the society for two years as executive vice president.

SPEBSQSA is a non-profit organization of more than 31,000 male close-harmony singers in the United States and Canada. Through education services, music publishing, public performance and competition, the organization preserves a rich heritage of uniquely American music for future generations.

A Society member since 1976, Hopkins is a noted barbershop arranger, a certified music judge for Society competitions and an active coach and chorus director. He sings baritone in the 2002 SLD champion quartet, Harmonix. Hopkins also has served on the Society's faculty for various education programs and chaired its Contest and Judging, Music and Performance, Operations and Music Publications committees. He earned his Ph.D. in music history and theory from the University of Pennsylvania.
