Heroes and Hard Times: A Black Folk History, a musical performance by James "Sparky" and Rhonda Rucker, will be presented on Thursday, March 6, at 4 p.m., in the Fillius Events Barn. Associate Professor of Music Lydia Hamessley will introduce the performance which is being hosted by the College's Emerson Gallery. The event, which is free and open to the public, is being held in conjunction with the gallery's current exhibitions which explore key moments in African American history through photography and political satire.
The performers will both entertain and teach via their musical program. Sparky Rucker has been performing for more than 40 years and is well-recognized as a musician, historian and storyteller. Rhonda Rucker began performing with Sparky in 1989. They have made six recordings together and have been featured in several television and video productions.
