The photography of Sylvia de Swaan, visiting instructor of art, has been selected by SHOTS Magazine for inclusion in its annual portfolio issue (winter 2007). The magazine selected and showcased the work of nine photographers, publishing a four-page spread for each that included images as well as an interview. De Swaan's work was also selected for the magazine's back cover.
In describing her photography selected for this issue, de Swaan said, "This work is rooted in my ongoing preoccupation with transience, with loss and with memory and identity. I am interested in the lines of destiny that shape our lives and the tidal waves of history that can sweep those lines away. I am also interested in the relationship between truth and fiction and how meaning can be created and altered through juxtaposition and editing.
An established independent photography journal in its 21st year of publication, SHOTS Magazine reaches an international audience of photographers, collectors, galleries, museums, educators and other fine art photography enthusiasts.
