Maurice Isserman, the Publius Virgilius Rogers Professor of American History, presented “Rucksack Revolution: Mountaineering and American Culture, 1946-1963” on Feb. 5 at the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center at the University of California Santa Barbara. He discussed his forthcoming book, Continental Divide: A History of American Mountaineering (W.W. Norton & Co, 2016), expected to be published this spring.
Isserman is also the co-author another book on mountaineering. Fallen Giants: A History of Himalayan Mountaineering from the Age of Empire to the Age of Extremes (Yale University Press, 2008; Paperback, 2010) was written with Stewart Weaver.
