Jacobus Van Der Ven's '11 winning poster.
A poster created by Jacobus Van Der Ven ’11 was selected as a 1st place gold prize winner in the 2009 Computer Security Awareness Poster and Video Contest by the EDUCAUSE/Internet 2 Computer and Network Security Task Force. Van Der Ven received a cash award of $1000 for his poster titled “Is Your Computer Healthy?”

In making the award to Van Der Ven, The EDUCAUSE committee wrote, “Surveys of colleges and universities have shown that a significant percentage of computer security breaches are caused by the carelessness of a student or staff member. This underscores the key role that security awareness efforts and preventive measures could make in addressing these problems. Building awareness among the student population is especially difficult, however, given the many demands on their campus lives. EDUCAUSE plans to promote your award-winning poster heavily, and we anticipate that many institutions will make use of it to help meet this challenge. Thank you for making this possible.”

Van Der Ven is a mathematics and philosophy major. He gradauted from Camden Hills Regional High School.
