Hong Gang Jin, the William R. Kenan Professor of East Asian Languages and Literature and director of the Associated Colleges in China program, was invited to present a keynote speech at the Second International Chinese Teaching Conference of Confucius Institutes and Classrooms in the U.S. and Canada. The conference was Oct. 19 – 20 at Portland State University in Portland, Ore.
In “Key Strategies to Successful Classroom Interaction: Effective Use of Teacher’s Questions,” Jin discussed ways that teachers can use questions to help them engage in meaningful and authentic classroom interaction with students. Using recent empirical studies and best classroom practices, she demonstrated that “development of a repertoire of teacher’s questioning strategies is essential for CFL (Chinese as a Foreign Language) classroom interaction.”
