
Professor of Chinese Hong Gang Jin recently presented lectures and workshops in Hong Kong and Beijing. She was invited to the College of Education at Hong Kong University to give a guest lecture on "The Role of Negotiation of Meaning and L2 Acquisition in a Classroom Setting" on April 18. The lecture was attended by 50 K-16 educators in the Hong Kong area specializing in foreign language education.
On April 11 Jin gave a lecture to graduate students at the Center of Advanced Studies at Beijing Language and Culture University on "Linguistic Complexity and Its Impact on Language Production." The lecture is based on an empirical research she recently conducted on second language learning process.
Also, on April 22 she gave a four-hour pre-conference workshop on "Task-based Instruction and Performance-based Assessment" to 80 teachers of less commonly taught languages from various universities in the U.S. This workshop has been an important part of the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages annual conference and offers professional development opportunities to teachers of 18 different world languages.
