At a workshop of the Mondragon Co-operative Academic Community (MCAC) held Feb. 25-26, Derek Jones, Irma M. and Robert D. Morris Professor of Economics, presented a paper "Trust, inequality and the size of co-operative sector: cross-country evidence."
The paper, co-authored by Panu Kalmi of the Helsinki School of Economics, provides the first, albeit preliminary, empirical evidence on the determinants of differences in the size of the cooperative sector around the world. Key data were recently released by the ICA and are integrated with other standard sources, such as data from the World Values surveys. Jones is a research director in economics for MCAC which is an organization within the Mondragon University in Spain.
