Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic's “Pound of Flesh” 2011, 6 x 4 feet , oil on linen courtesy of P.P.O.W. Gallery, New York, N.Y.

A solo exhibition featuring paintings by Professor of Art Katharine Kuharic will open on Aug. 20 at the Shircliff Gallery of Art at Vincennes University in Indiana. The free exhibition runs through Sept. 20. An artist talk and reception will take place in the gallery on Friday, Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. to noon.

A press release for the exhibition describes Kuharic’s work as “a twisted synthesis of old-fashion American kitsch and contemporary concerns of gender, race, celebrity, and the status quo. Her images present simultaneously nostalgia and cynicism; a reanimation, equipped with disembodied limbs and organs, of what it means to be part of American culture.”
