Visiting Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Neal Keating published an article titled "UN General Assembly Adopts Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples 143-4," in the November issue of Anthropology News. It reports on the political dynamics leading up to the UN General Assembly's historic decision to formally recognize the human rights of indigenous peoples.
In addition to witnessing announcement of the decision on September 13, Keating participated in the Sixth Annual Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York City in May, and conducted videotaped interviews with indigenous delegates from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. His research assistant was Daniel E. Allen '09. The article includes a photograph taken by Allen, and three by Keating, one of which appears on the cover.
