Seventeen Kirkland College alumnae, some who are professional artists and others who pursue their art as an avocation, will participate in an exhibition during Hamilton's reunion weekend, May 31 – June 3, in the Emerson Gallery.
The show titled "Inspirations" includes a wide range of works including paintings, sculpture, etchings, serigraphs, drawings, and photography using a variety of materials. The art represents a wide range of techniques and styles - from representational and narrative to experimental, enigmatic and challenging.
The artists have pursued many professions in the arts including illustration, art history, jewelry design, landscape design, bookbinding and teaching, and non-arts professions including law and writing. While at Kirkland College, many majored in art or art history. This exhibition is being held in connection with an all-Kirkland reunion that coincides with the 35th reunion of the class of 1972. The arts - ceramics, drawing, music, painting, printing, photography, metal working, sculpture and theater - were a strong presence at Kirkland. The college was opened in 1968 as a women's college and was merged with Hamilton, then a men's college, in 1978.
"Inspirations" was organized by Ann Williams Singer K'78 and Wendell Willis Livingston K'79 and curated by Michelle Facos K'76.
The Emerson Gallery will be open on Thursday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 5p.m., Friday and Saturday, June 1 and 2, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Works by the Russian artist Antoly Zverov (1931-1986) will be on exhibit in an adjoining gallery.
The Emerson Gallery is located on the Hamilton College campus in Clinton in the Christian A. Johnson Hall, directly behind the Chapel. For further information, including information on parking and wheelchair accessibility, please contact the Emerson Gallery at 315-859-4396 or consult the gallery's Web page http://www.hamilton.edu/gallery.
