An article published by Associate Professor of English Catherine Gunther Kodat in American Quarterly received a favorable notice in the November 7 edition of Times Literary Supplement, a prestigious British literary journal.  Kodat wrote an essay "Conversing With Ourselves," for the March 3 edition of American Quarterly, the official publication of the American Studies Association.  The Times Literary Supplement (TLS), in a review of American Quarterly wrote, "Catherine Gunther Kodat's essay on the formation of the canon of jazz 'greats' (volume 55, number one, March 2003) engages both with Adorno on music and Ken Burns's jazz programme, and is as informative about John Coltrane's version of 'My Favourite Things' as it is suggestive for wider discussion of canon formation."

According to the TLS Web site, "Since 1902, the TLS has scrutinized, dissected, applauded, and occasionally disparaged, the work of the twentieth century's leading writers and thinkers. The TLS is the only literary weekly - in fact the only journal - to offer comprehensive coverage not just of the latest and most important publications, in every subject, in several languages - but also current theatre, opera and film. The TLS's authority is acknowledged world-wide and its approach is world-wide, too. "
