
Associate Professor of English Catherine Gunther Kodat gave an invited talk before the American Studies graduate research seminar at the University of Sussex in Brighton, England, in October. She presented material drawn from her book chapter on Spartacus.
At the American Studies Association annual convention in Atlanta during November, she chaired a panel "Classical, Vernacular, High and Low Culture: Music, Dance, and Architecture in America." Panelists included Gudrun Grabher, chair of the American Studies department at the University of Innsbruck, Austria, and Robert Hinton, associate director of the Africana Studies program at New York University.
Also in November Kodat gave a talk, "Reading Art Reading Politics Reading Art: Cold War Cultural Diplomacy and the Problem of Interpretation" at the Rothermere American Institute, University of Oxford.
