Anne E. Lacsamana, assistant professor of women's studies, was invited by several founding members of the Philippine women's movement to participate in a roundtable discussion titled "Philippine Women's Liberation: Nationalism, Feminism and Strategies for the Future" on Jan. 4 in Quezon City. Each of the 25 participants represented various sectors of the women's movement: grassroots organizers for the rural and urban poor, members of local NGOs, and feminist theoreticians. Topics discussed included reproductive health, militarization, globalization, environmental justice, labor and women's migration. During her stay in the Philippines, Lacsamana conducted research at the University of the Philippines, Diliman, and visited several feminist organizations throughout Manila and Quezon City as part of her ongoing scholarship concerning gender, nationalism and the Filipino diaspora.
