Leach and Bellona Address New York State Dormitory Authority Summit Meeting

Vice President of Administration and Finance Karen L. Leach and Steven J. Bellona, associate vice president of facilities and planning, spoke at a Private Higher Education CFO Summit Meeting for the New York State Dormitory Authority in New York City on Sept. 25.

The Dormitory Authority, which also hosted Summit Meetings in Albany and Rochester this month, invited CFOs, controllers, and other financial decision makers and facilities managers at New York State private education institutions to attend the meetings. The meetings were intended to help attendees learn more about ways in which the Dormitory Authority could assist in areas of financing and green construction.

Topics covered at the meetings included tax-exempt bond-financing programs, tax-exempt leasing programs, Higher Education Capital Matching Grant Project information, and energy efficiency and green construction developments. Bellona and Leach both were speakers recognized as "higher education executives with green experience."

In 2006, Hamilton received LEED Silver Certification for its renovation of Skenandoa House, the first such LEED designation in N.Y.S. for a historic building. Hamilton is a member of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Green Power Partnership, and 100 percent of the power for Skenandoa House is purchased from renewable energy sources.
