Leide Cabral '10 will speak as a panelist at a policy discussion on Thursday, November 2 at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. The panel, convened by The Partnership for 21st Century Skills and Citizen Schools, will discuss the skills young people need to succeed in the new global economy and the venues where they can develop these skills. The event is intended to promote new policies and practices, and the list of expected guests is impressive and diverse.

As the only student panelist, Cabral will join the president and co-founder of The Partnership for 21st Century Skills, the CEO and co-founder of Citizen Schools, the academic program manager of Microsoft's US Partners in Learning, the executive director of the National Education Association, and the vice president of product development for JA Worldwide at the roundtable.

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills and Citizen Schools organized the event in response to poor U.S. rankings on critical international comparisons of educational performance and wide gaps between the skills businesses value and the skills that most American schools teach. The discussion also marks the release of a new policy book titled The Case for Twenty-First Century Learning, to which Cabral contributed a chapter. For more information visit citizenschools.org.
