Langfield got her start on TV and radio in Boston before moving to New York where she worked as executive producer to such talk show personalities as Sally Jessy Raphael. She eventually began hosting a one-minute movie review spot, which led to her own weekend call-in show and role as a regular contributing commentator for CNN, Fox News, and CNBC.
At Kirkland, Langfield created her own major, concentrating as much as possible on theater and film, and she took courses with her favorite professors, including Carole Bellini-Sharp and Nat Boxer. She also performed at Minor Theater and was a DJ on WHCL.
“While much of my broadcast career was on TV, cable, talk, and news stations, my DJ time at WHCL gave me my first try at any kind of radio,” she recalled. “I was as nervous as could be behind the mic but learned to transform those nerves into a positive energy, something I still do today.”
When not screening — or reviewing — the latest films, Langfield and her husband, Michael Rose, spend time babysitting their grandsons, playing tennis, and traveling. This fall, she’s looking forward to seeing the mix of commercial and smaller, perhaps more artistic, films that debut at the annual New York Film Festival. “Walking into those screenings often feels like going back to school after summer break. We are all so happy to be there.”
