Alison Lin '03 will present a talk, "Grassroots Literacy for Women's Empowerment: Observations through the Bristol Fellowship in Haiti, Cameroon, Vanuatu, Senegal, and Martinique," on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 12 p.m. in the Christian-Johnson Browsing Room. Her lecture, which is free and open to the public, is part of Hamilton College's Empowerment Week, sponsored by HAVOC (Hamilton Action Volunteer Outreach Coalition).
On Friday, Oct. 15 at 5 p.m., Ruth Mena and Yadira Vallejos of the Nueva Vida Sewing Cooperative will talk about the possibilities of fair trade as an alternative to the corporate globalization model. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the Dwight Lounge of the Bristol Campus Center.
Their visit is part of the Fall 2004 Nueva Vida Sewing Cooperative speaking tour sponsored by SweatFree Communities, Nicaragua Network, Campaign for Labor Rights, the Presbyterian Hunger Program (USA) and North Country Fair Trade.
