Local media coverage is as important to Hamilton as is national attention. Hamilton students and faculty contribute their time and expertise to the local community in many ways. College-sponsored programs also make news in Central New York. Alerting the community to Hamilton's many public lectures and events contributes to stronger community ties. Community Service Projects on Martin Luther King Day

A local all-news TV station featured Hamilton students as they assisted with the renovation of the new Utica-based community food bank as part of the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Day.

Hamilton College Sends Acceptance Letters

Outdoor Leadership Director Takes First Place in World's Longest Kayak Race

Director of Outdoor Leadership Andrew Jillings' winning performance in the 2007 Yukon River Quest, the world's longest annual canoe and kayak race, was celebrated by several media outlets including:
Later in the summer Jillings won the famed 90-miler the 25th anniversary canoe and kayak race between Old Forge and Saranac Lake in the Adirondacks. The Adirondack Daily Enterprise (Tupper Lake) and WNBZ (Saranac Lake) covered his successful performance. 

Hamilton Breaks Fundraising Record

Alumni, parents and friends of Hamilton contributed $30.8 million during the fiscal year that ended June 30, an increase of 45 percent over the previous year and 32 percent more than the previous record, set a decade ago. The story was covered by

Proctor Students Study Chemistry in Summer Internship at Hamilton

Two Proctor high school students spent the summer studying at Hamilton with chemistry professor Camille Jones as part of a paid internship. Under Jones direction, they studied hydrogen bonding as part of a project funded by the American Chemistry Society for economically challenged high school students to offer them a chance to get involved with chemistry. Student Creates Community Garden in Utica Public Housing Project

As part of a summer Levitt Center fellowship, Jenney Stringer '08 worked with the city of Utica and the housing authority to create a community garden at a housing complex populated primarily by immigrants accustomed to maintaining a garden. Community volunteers, Hamilton students, volunteers from Home-Depot, apartment residents and the Utica Municipal Housing Authority worked on the preparation of permanent garden beds. Edward Root Exhibit at Emerson Gallery

The Emerson Gallery's fall exhibition, "The Best Kind of Life: Edward W. Root as Teacher, Collector and Naturalist," focused on the pioneering of Edward W. Root, a graduate of the class of 1905, to promote American art. The Observer-Dispatch dedicated a two-page spread to the exhibition.

Hamilton Hosts an "Eat Local Challenge"
