Professor of Religious Studies S. Brent Rodriguez-Plate served as the president of the jury for the Ecumenical Prize at the 74th Locarno Film Festival, held last month in Switzerland.
Plate, along with three other jurors from France and Switzerland, spent 10 days watching 17 films from around the world before deciding the winner. As president of the jury, Plate also presided over meetings with the other jurors and oversaw the final decision, which he then presented to the festival organizers.
Plate said the Ecumenical Jury began at Locarno in 1973 and is one of the oldest independent juries for the festival. This year, the Ecumenical Prize went to Soul Of A Beast by Swiss director Lorenz Merz.
