Professor of Cinema and Media Studies Scott MacDonald was invited to speak with filmmaker Larry Gottheim at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) as part of the opening of “The Red Thread: Larry Gottheim’s Films,” a retrospective of the avant-garde filmmaker’s career.
According to MoMA’s description, the event coincided with “the recent publication of The Red Thread: Larry Gottheim and His Films, in which the filmmaker discusses his explorations of cinematic perception, alongside other artists’ and critics’ reflections on the importance of Gottheim’s work.”
MacDonald was listed as the main speaker for the discussion, and several Hamilton alumni attended the event.
Over the years, MacDonald has written about Gottheim and has also hosted him as part of Hamilton’s long-running F.I.L.M. (Forum on Image and Language in Motion) series.
