Scott MacDonald
Visiting Professor of Film History Scott MacDonald presented a paper, "Pragmatic--A Tentative Taxonomy of Boston Area Filmmaking," at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies on March 7, in Philadelphia. He was also involved in curating and was the host for the opening event for "Facing Realities: Dialogues in Boston Documentary Filmmaking," an on-going series of events focused on Boston filmmaking and sponsored by the LEF Foundation and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Following a screening of Robert Gardner's Forest of Bliss (1986), a "city symphony" of Benares, India, and Jane Gillooly's Today the Hawk Takes One Chick (2007), a witnessing of the AIDS crisis in Swaziland, MacDonald moderated a discussion with the filmmakers. "Facing Realities" has a Web site that includes MacDonald's essay and will include video records of the discussions in the series.
