A feature article by Professor of Cinema and New Media Studies Scott MacDonald has been published in the Winter, 2010 issue of Film Quarterly. In “Avant-Doc: Eight Intersections” MacDonald reflects on links between documentary and avant-garde filmmaking traditions: from the first experiments in motion photography through the new sound technologies of the 1960s, to the development of the Robert Flaherty Seminar over the past 50 years, to the trends of filmmakers focusing on their own families and the recent popularity of nature films.
