Assistant Professor of Physics Seth Major presented a lecture, "Life without Lorentz Invariance: Good, Worthwhile, or Merely Crazy," at the Perimeter Institute/CITA (University of Toronto) Mini-Workshop Oct. 30.  The work, some of which is joint work with Tomasz Konopka '02 and Dan Heyman '03, relates to the intriguing recent claims that Einstein's theory of special relativity may require modification.

Major was invited to visit the small quantum gravity group at the University of New Brunswick.  While there he gave a talk "Juggling Fire: Exploring modifications to Lorentz Invariance" on November 14.

His opinion piece about close elections was published in the Post-Standard on Nov. 4 and subsequently picked up by CNNMoney.com.

Major's grant proposal to the Research Corporation was approved in full.  It is a two-year Cottrell Science Award for $24,000.  In addition, he received a $500 grant from the APS for support of the physics colloquia series.
