On the November 4, Marc Williams, son of Kirby Williams ‘61 will run his second New York City Marathon in honor of Eric Oatman ’61, who passed away at the end of last year after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Williams’ father, Kirby, was a close college friend with Oatman and therefore Oatman was a strong presence in Williams’ life. The Williams would frequently visit Oatman in New York, and Oatman would visit the family at their home near Paris.

Williams says that “I decided that the best way to honor [Oatman’s] life and the impact that it had on my own would be by raising money for the American Cancer Society and dedicating my marathon to him. As part of the American Cancer Society DetermiNation team, I know that my fundraising efforts will help save lives from every cancer in every community.”

At Hamilton Oatman majored in French and was a member of Alpha Delta Phi.
