Russell Marcus, the Christian A. Johnson Professor of Teaching Excellence, presented new research, “Learning Moments,” and received the AAPTs Award of Merit at the 50th anniversary workshop-conference of the American Association of Philosophy Teachers at Eastern Michigan University, July 22-26.
Learning moments are specific activities or assignments that help students build the skills and habits we want them to develop. They connect broad learning goals to the actual work students do in class by breaking those goals into manageable steps.
The Award of Merit is given for Outstanding Leadership and Achievements in the Teaching of Philosophy. Marcus, the immediate past president of the AAPT, also presented at a plenary session of past presidents.
