Hamilton College's Andre Matias '12 helped his nation of Angola entry finish first in the lightweight men's double sculls E Final in the 2014 World Rowing Championships at Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on August 28.

Matias and Jean Rasamoelina posted a time of 7:00.33, which was slightly more than 30 seconds faster than the runners-up from Armenia. Matias and Rasamoelina ended up 24th overall in the world.

Matias will be taking a one-year leave from law school to train full-time for the Olympic qualifying regatta in 2015.
