
Hamilton sophomore Meghan Stringer (Manlius, N.Y.) is attending the ATHGO International spring 2005 symposium, April 26-28, at the United Nations in New York. The three-day event will discuss the importance of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and reveal implementation strategies designed by 400 students and entry-level public servants.
The symposium will produce a resolution co-written by all the participants and will be sent to UN Economic and Social Council meeting, which will convene in New York in July 2005." The program is highly selective, requiring potential participants to submit an essay and have a grade point average greater then 3.0.
According to its Web site, "ATHGO International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit NGO, based in the United States and Switzerland, whose mission is training, motivating, and inspiring future generations of international professionals to become decision-makers and diplomats with skills and vision to cope with the rapid changes and challenges of the 21st century. Established in 1999, ATHGO has been awarded consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council for its role in educating young people in global human rights, democratic development, economic freedom, security, and other issues of a global dimension."
