Former Hamilton College men's lacrosse All-American Matt Silverio '03 was drafted by the Anaheim Storm of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) in the seventh round of the league's 2003 Entry Draft on Oct. 25.
Silverio was the 70th overall pick in the draft and one of just six players drafted from an NCAA Division III program. He led Hamilton to the 2003 NCAA Division III quarterfinals and finished his college career as the Continentals' all-time leader in points and goals. He scored 219 goals and added 62 assists in his four-year career.
The All-American attackman tallied 72 goals and assisted on 22 others last year. Silverio's 72 goals tied him for most in the nation in 2003 and led to a United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Second Team All-American selection. Silverio was also selected to play in the USILA North-South All-Star Game.
Silverio was Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Upstate New York Region Player of the Year and Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) Co-Player of the Year in 2003. He was UCAA Player of the Year in 2002, was named First Team All-UCAA all four years, and was the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2000. Silverio was also a two-time First Team ECAC Upstate New York Region selection at attack during his career.
Silverio is the first Hamilton College men's lacrosse player to be drafted by a professional lacrosse league. The Storm is starting its first season in Anaheim. The organization started in New Jersey in 2002.
