Midnight Madness
Midnight Madness
Students, parents and faculty gathered in the Margaret Bundy Scott Field House for "Midnight Madness" late in the evening of Saturday, Nov. 1, to celebrate the beginning of the basketball season with Hamilton's men's and women's teams and raise money for the Johnson Park Center in Utica.

Hamilton swimming coach TJ Davis served as the master of ceremonies and opened the event by introducing the players from both teams. Kyle Dumas '09 narrowly beat Molly Kane '09 in the finals of an exciting three-point shooting contest that also included Harlee Wood '09 and Laura Wetmore '09. Several members of the men's team competed in a slam dunk contest.

Robert Simon, the Marjorie and Robert W. McEwen Professor of Philosophy; Director of Student Activities Lisa Magnarelli '96; Marge Petteys from Commons; and Kim Hutchins of the Athletic Department judged the event.

Patrick Sullivan '12 won the dunk contest with a reverse slam in the final round, beating Joe Manns '10, who leapt over a garbage can before attempting to dunk, but couldn't make the basket. Both teams participated in a short intra-squad scrimmage.

One spectator, whose raffle ticket was randomly drawn, had the chance to win $10,000 if he could make a lay-up, free-throw, three-pointer, and half court shot in 24 seconds. The contestant quickly made the lay-up and free-throw, but ran out of time before he could make the three-pointer and attempt the half court shot.

The event was organized by the Athletic Department and the Hamilton Association for Volunteering, Outreach, and Charity (HAVOC), and the proceeds from the raffle and concessions at the event supported the youth athletic programs at the Johnson Park Center.
