Assistant Professor of Sociology Jaime Kucinskas recently presented a public talk about her book, The Mindful Elite: Mobilizing From The Inside Out, at the University of Cardiff in Wales. Her lecture was followed by an interdisciplinary panel of social researchers and mindfulness teachers responding to the book and talk.
Kucinskas also facilitated a research methods workshop for mindfulness graduate students.
In addition, she attended a conference on mindfulness convened by the head of the labor party in Wales. The meeting took place at Temple of Peace in Cardiff and featured presentations by Welsh mindfulness teachers, researchers, and leaders who have been working with the Welsh government on how to bring mindfulness techniques, and the qualities of greater calm and perspective, into health, education, and public sector work in Wales.
The Mindful Elite, published in 2018 by Oxford University Press, was named an award winner in the Religion: Eastern category of the 2019 Best Book Awards, sponsored by American Book Fest.
