Hamilton Mock Trial ended its 2016-17 competitive season at the Lancaster, Pa., Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) competition. It was hosted by Elizabethtown College on March 17 to 19. Hamilton was one of 24 teams at the competition, and only six teams advance to the national competition later this spring. Ultimately, Hamilton placed 7th, narrowly missing the opportunity to compete at the national level.

The six teams advancing are Columbia University, University of Rochester (B), Cornell University (A), Yale University (B), University of Rochester (A), and Yale University (A).

At the tournament, Hamilton faced Cornell University (B), the University of Pittsburgh, Syracuse University, and La Salle University. In these tight matchups, the team ended with a record of four wins, three losses, and one tie.

Since the team is not advancing to the national tournament, ORCS marked the last tournament for three senior mock trial competitors.

Co-Captain Caroline Reppert ’17 has been a competitor since her freshman year of high school. Since then, she has focused more on attorney roles, but shined as a witness during this season. She plans to attend law school and pursue policy work.

Co-Captain Andrew Fischer ’17 joined the team during his sophomore year at Hamilton, and has mainly competed as an attorney. This year, however, he debuted as an expert witness and took home an Outstanding Witness award at ORCS. He plans to attend law school and pursue a career in politics.

Treasurer Silvia Radulescu ’17 joined Mock Trial during her first year at Hamilton and has competed as both an attorney and witness. She is preparing for a career as an attorney, and has accepted a position as a litigation paralegal at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP after graduation.

Additionally, Conor O'Shea ’18 earned an Outstanding Attorney award for his role as a plaintiff closing attorney at ORCS.

The other competing team members in ORCS were: Ryan Bloom ’18, Rachel Dawson ’19, Samantha Gordon ’19, and Isabelle Mosbarger ’20.
