Molly Faerber '10 is the recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from Lighthouse International. The organization honors gifted and motivated students for their outstanding courage in overcoming the challenges of vision loss. Faerber received the Judy Van Nostrand Arts Award.
Faerber is a creative writing and French major at Hamilton. She plans to spend the next semester studying in France. This summer Faerber was selected to attend the New York State Summer Writers' Institute at Skidmore College, open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as post-graduates. The workshops, offered in fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction, are taught by published, well-known and, in many cases, award winning writers. The workshops are interspersed with readings, lectures and discussions given by visiting writers—this year's lineup includes authors like Russell Banks, Michael Ondaatje, Jamaica Kincaid and Joyce Carol Oates.
According to the organization, "The Lighthouse International Scholarships and Career Awards are sponsored by individuals, organizations and foundations. Recipients are assessed on academic and personal achievement by the Lighthouse International Scholarships and Career Awards Committee."
Founded in 1905, Lighthouse International is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to preserving vision and to providing critically needed health care services to help people of all ages overcome the challenges of vision loss.
