Assistant Professor of French and Francophone Studies Claire Mouflard recently presented a paper at the South Atlantic Modern Language Association Conference in Atlanta. In “Leïla Slimani’s ‘petits Blancs:’ Writing the French Working Class through Race in Chanson Douce,” she discussed the French-Moroccan author’s prediction of the white working class uprising currently happening in France, as most recently seen in the gilets jaunes (yellow vests) movement.
Mouflard was also recently elected vice-president of the New York African Studies Association (NYASA). NYASA’s annual conference will be hosted by Hamilton College in 2021.
