Jennifer Lowe-Anker
Mountain climber, mother and author Jennifer Lowe-Anker will give a lecture titled “Forget Me Not: Summits of the Heart” on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Science Center Kennedy Auditorium at Hamilton. Her talk, which includes a slide presentation and reading from her book Forget Me Not, will document her emotional struggles after having lost her husband, Alex Lowe, a well-known mountaineer. The event is sponsored by the Dean of Faculty Office, the History Department, the Writing Program, and the Outing Club. It is free and open to the public.

In 1999 Lowe-Anker was forced to cope with tremendous grief after her husband Alex died in an avalanche on Shishapangma, a remote Himalayan mountain. Alex’s best friend and climbing partner Conrad Anker, who had survived the accident, was also consumed by sorrow and survivor’s guilt. Jennifer and Conrad drew strength and consolation from each other in the aftermath of the incident; they eventually fell in love and were married in 2001. Conrad is now the adoptive father of Jennifer’s children.

Lowe-Anker's memoir, Forget Me Not, spans continents and tells the story of three people whose lives intertwine to a degree they could never have imagined. It chronicles her emotional journey from mother and wife to widow to woman who rediscovers the power of love through loss.

Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing at the event.
