Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Rebecca Murtaugh recently exhibited in "Existing to Remain" at the District of Columbia Art Center. The show opened February 25 and runs until April 3, when Murtaugh will give a public artist's lecture at the gallery.

"Assistant Professor of English Gillian Gane presented a paper titled "Indianizing Devonshire: Indrani Aikath-Gyaltsen's Plagiarized Novel" at the 14th annual British Commonwealth and Postcolonial Studies Conference in Savannah, Ga., in February.

Existing to Remain" includes the artwork of four artists that use ceramics and other materials as a point of departure to study transformation in the artistic process. Artists include Kate Hardy, Rebecca Murtaugh, Claire Sherwood and Dina Weston. The show was curated by Margaret Boozer and Claire Huschle.

One hundred and sixty exhibits featuring 878 artists from around the world will be held in 122 venues throughout the Greater Baltimore and Washington D.C. area beginning February 19 and continuing through April 3. These exhibits are organized by Tour de Clay, a collaboration among artists, galleries and leaders from the Greater Baltimore cultural community who have joined together to showcase all possibilities of art in clay, on the occasion of the Baltimore convention of The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts.
