With the show’s host, NHCA director Jahnel Nisbett, he discussed the ongoing work between the College and the NHCS as they continue the digitization of Nevis’ historical documents.
The interview took place during his fourth visit to the island, and his first since 2019 when he, along with Photography and Digital Imagery Specialist Marianita Peaslee and three students, began digitizing some of the oldest manuscripts in the NHCS archives.
Goodwillie showed some of the interesting things he has come across while organizing and preparing the archives’ holdings for digitization. Among the items is a special issue of Federalist magazine The Portfolio, published following the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr. Correspondence between Hamilton and Burr leading up to the duel was printed on the front page.
Goodwilllie also described how he and the College became involved in preserving the history of Alexander Hamilton’s birthplace and the steps that will be taken to make the island’s historical records available to the public.
