New York City. I like the rhythm of this place. It seems that the only thing here that you can complain about is abundance. There is a lot of everything. A lot of work, a lot of sun, a lot of rain, a lot of smiling faces, a lot of frowning faces, a lot of bars and restaurants, a lot of anxiety (especially in the context of the Republican Convention), and even a lot of relaxation, if you will.
I do not want to start writing about my work from the very first week, so I will try to focus on how the usual day in the apartment goes after everyone comes back. The first thing that I do when I come back is go to the gym. My gym exercises here are much shorter than at Hamilton, but I guess everything here must be more concise and must happen at a faster pace than anywhere else. I exercise for about 40-45 minutes and I chit-chat with some other people from our building, which is always interesting and useful because it seems that most people around here work in the same field as all of us – the financial sector. After that I usually thank God that he has created the shower and after I take one, I go to the terrace with one or two of my roommates to have a cup of tea after work. We enjoy the gorgeous view of the Statue of Liberty and the shining shores of New Jersey as we discuss how we spent the day and what we learned in our internships. After that we have some dinner and then we start making plans on what to do for the rest of the evening. Sometimes we out for a walk and we explore the nice and pretty calm in the downtown area. Other times we play some games in the apartment or just watch tv. Between midnight and 2 a.m. people usually go to bed in order to get some rest before the next day begins.
Anyway, that is pretty much how a usual day goes here so far. As classes start tomorrow and our internships are bound to become even more challenging and demanding, our daily routine is likely to change, I guess. But for now, everything is great, I would say, and people really seem to enjoy the program.
