Angel David Nieves, associate professor of Africana Studies, presented a paper at the annual meeting of the African Studies Association held Nov. 13-16 in Chicago. The paper, titled "Sites of Memory and Narration on the World Wide Web: Building the Soweto '76 Digital Archive," focused on the development of a digital archive, Soweto '76, in collaboration with the Hector Pieterson Memorial & Museum (HPMM) in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Soweto '76 Digital Archive creates an innovative online educational program that allows greater public access to the collections of the HPMM. The project creates advanced tools for researching and visualizing the history of Soweto. The archive will also be accessible to students and visitors at HPMM, while online access to the project will allow for exploration of Soweto's history by those who cannot visit the site in person.

Help us provide an accessible education, offer innovative resources and programs, and foster intellectual exploration.
