Anna C. Oldfield, Asian Studies Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor of Comparative Literature, has authored a video-based Turkish language learning module for a three-year Department of Education International Research and Studies Program grant titled “A Deep Approach to Turkish Teaching and Learning.” It is a collaboration between the University of Wisconsin Center for Education Research and Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul.
This grant supports the creation of a 24-module Turkish language course which uses video to create an Internet-based “living textbook.” Oldfield’s module centers on performances and interviews with traditional female singers and is intended to introduce advanced learners of Turkish to the closely related Azerbaijani language and culture.
