
Professor of French John O'Neal recently concluded his second term as president of the Northeast American Society for 18th-Century Studies (NEASECS). He presided over the annual conference of the Society, held this year at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
In addition to setting the agenda for the executive board of the Society and running its meeting during the conference, O'Neal introduced plenary speaker Alan Taylor (who had spoken recently about Samuel Kirkland at Hamilton College) and organized a French session on the theme of the conference: Ambiguity in the 18th Century. O'Neal's last term as president of NEASECS was in 1992-1993.
