It is special when one can enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience while simultaneously supporting a worthy cause. For a three-week period, members of the Hamilton community will be offered that chance.

Beginning on June 3, the Hamilton New York City Scholarship Fund Auction on charitybuzz.com will be accessible for online bids on many unique opportunities including:

  • Attendance at the premiere of Nine and an opportunity to interview stars on the red carpet
  • A visit to the set of Face the Nation as it airs and a studio tour with Bob Schieffer
  • A set visit to The Office and lunch with Paul Lieberstein '89, writer and star for The Office
  • A set visit to ABC's World News with Charles Gibson and personal studio tour
  • A red carpet walk at a Quentin Tarantino film opening, Inglourious Basterds, with the stars
  • An autograph session with the New Jersey Nets
  • A flight on a private jet for a group of eight people
  • Two tickets to the premiere of Where the Wild Things Are, airfare included
  • Signed, personalized jersey from Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger
  • Signed, personalized guitar from Slash (of Guns 'n Roses, Velvet Revolver)
The auction also features items from Sak's Fifth Avenue, Sotheby's, Scholastic Books and the New York Yankees, among many more offerings.

Funds raised will go to scholarships for New York City public school graduates who are planning to attend Hamilton. Sara Weinstein '02 initiated these fundraising activities, organizing and soliciting most of the items for bid. The auction is targeted to raise at least $75,000 according to Mary McLean Evans '82, executive director of principal gifts.

"More New York City public school students are graduating from high school and getting into college, but the financial challenge of paying tuition remains a barrier for many of our families," New York City Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein said. "I want to thank all those who contribute to the online auction for making the dream of college a reality for some of our most deserving students."

Many supporters of Hamilton College will continue to donate experiences and items from the worlds of music, travel and entertainment during the three-week period so bidders are urged to revisit the site. Without the assistance of alumni whose professional careers give them access to celebrity donors, this auction would not be possible.

Because it is an online auction, charitybuzz is accessible to bidders around the world. Currently more than 110 countries are represented by participants. Other recent charities that have worked with charitybuzz include the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights, the Mayor's Fund to Advance NYC, Barnard College, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation among many others.
