
Associate Professor of Economics Ann Owen participated in a conference focused on the role of the economics major in a liberal education at the invitation of the American Economic Association's Committee on Economic Education. Along with nine other economists from both public and private research universities and liberal arts colleges, Owen discussed ways in which economics can be taught that increase the potential for economics to contribute to a liberal education.
The goal of the conference, sponsored by the Teagle Foundation, was to produce a report with specific recommendations for the American Economic Association, higher education institutions and instructors. The conference was held in Richmond, Virginia Oct. 26 - 28. The Committee on Economic Education is a standing committee of the American Economic Association whose mission it is to improve the quality of economics education at all levels: pre-college, college, adult and general education.
