Associate Professor of Economics Ann Owen was quoted in a front page story in The Christian Science Monitor on Wednesday, Oct. 8. In "Fed makes boldest move yet," an article that discussed the Federal Reserve's decision to buy short-term debt directly from the largest U.S. corporations, Owen observed that if other economic indicators were looking more positive, the Fed would not be taking such dramatic steps. Responding to the possibility of the Fed lowering rates further Owen responded, ""The problem is if people are not lending, it does not matter what the target interest rate is."
