Assistant Professor of Mathematics Chinthaka Kuruwita published an article, Testing Equality of Nonparametric Quantile Regression Functions, in International Journal of Statistics and Probability (vol. 3, Feb,2014). It was co-authored with Colin Gallagher, Clemson University, and K. B. Kulasekera, University of Louisville.
The article proposes a new approach for testing the equality of nonparametric quantile regression functions based on marked empirical processes. The authors develop test statistics that possess better Type I and power properties in comparison to all available procedures in the literature. An application of the method to hurricane data shows that the impact of climate change has resulted in more intense hurricanes than in the recent past.
